The Challenge

Telecommunications

As an enterprise decision maker, creating and evolving a distinct data and telecommunications strategy is a key challenge and one that cannot be taken lightly. The pace of technological change can be mind-numbing. All signs point to more devices, more connectivity, more bandwidth, more services and applications, and many ways to implement and manage it all.

The intense competition amongst vendors and service providers is only going to increase. And you are already being bombarded with choices.

For all practical purposes, it is no longer possible (nor desirable) to distinguish between voice, data, and video at the user level – and frankly, it's all being carried by the same media (increasingly wireless) and managed by the same physical infrastructure of devices. Users expect to do everything on every device they use, and they expect to be able to connect even more devices to access a constantly-increasing set of services.

You must evolve your network. The continued decline of traditional wireline operators AND the conversion from older 2G and 3G systems either to 4G or jumping right to 5G, and innovative new technologies ranging from virtualization and the cloud, to wearable technologies and the Internet of Things (IoT), drive this evolution.

The Expertise You Need

When Sur Solutions thinks wireless telecommunications, we think of everything across the wireless spectrum. From wireless cellular communications to basic 2-way radio and pagers, to GPS and GIS applications, to emergency or fleet dispatch, work order maintenance, tracking and video, and finally to the most sophisticated 4G LTE and bleeding-edge 5G smartphone or tablet solutions, we have it covered. We live it and know it.

Real-World Engagements

01

I Need Robust Wireless Telecommunications in a Remote Area

Sur Solutions was asked by a client to provide the guidance and knowledge to setup a private voice-and-data cellular network to serve approximately 10,000 subscribers. This client wanted a system requiring minimum operational knowledge and high reliability.

To ensure that our client's needs were met beyond their expectations, Sur Solutions conducted a number of information-gathering sessions. We helped our client understand the relevant technologies and costs so that they were better able to make good decisions about the ultimate solution. Once the winning solution was understood, we played an instrumental role in system deployment and troubleshooting, and training for maintenance and operation post-install.

02

We Need to Strategically Evolve Our Wireless Telecommunications

A client came to us wishing to gradually evolve their telecommunications network, going from 2G wireless technologies to 3G or 4G. We helped the customer with assessment and benchmarking, hardware assessments, and even deep packet and traffic analysis, helping them understand their present mode of operation.

Our years of experience allowed us to quickly present our client the optimum upgrade path forward that accounted for cost, schedule, and user needs. Proactive planning and expertise allowed our client to understand where they were with regard to their competitors, and to ultimately ensure their success with the precise implementation of the network upgrade suited exactly to their needs.

03

We Need a Private 5G Network for Our Operations

A large logistics and warehousing client approached Sur Solutions needing ultra-low-latency, high-density wireless connectivity across a 500,000 sq. ft. facility to support autonomous guided vehicles (AGVs), real-time inventory telemetry, and HD video surveillance — workloads that Wi-Fi 6 alone could not reliably support.

Sur Solutions designed and deployed a private 5G Standalone (SA) network leveraging CBRS (Citizens Broadband Radio Service) spectrum, eliminating the need for licensed carrier involvement and keeping operational costs predictable. We handled the full engagement: RF planning and spectrum coordination, core network selection and configuration, integration with the client's existing IT/OT infrastructure, and end-device onboarding.

The result was a dedicated, low-latency 5G network fully under the client's control — with network slicing configured to prioritize mission-critical AGV traffic over general-purpose data. Operational efficiency improved measurably, and the client gained a future-ready infrastructure capable of supporting additional IoT and automation use cases as their facility scales.

Our Carrier Is Sunsetting 3G — We Need a Migration Plan

Following the industry-wide 3G network shutdowns by major U.S. carriers, a client operating a large fleet of IoT sensors, M2M devices, and field communication units found themselves facing a hard deadline: migrate or go dark.

Sur Solutions stepped in to conduct a full device fleet audit, cataloging every 3G-dependent endpoint by location, function, criticality, and replacement complexity. We identified which devices could be firmware-upgraded to 4G LTE, which required hardware replacement, and which presented an opportunity to leapfrog directly to 5G-capable modules — particularly for high-throughput or latency-sensitive applications.

We then managed the end-to-end migration program: vendor negotiations for replacement hardware, carrier plan restructuring to optimize cost across the new 4G/5G footprint, staged rollout sequencing to avoid operational disruption, and post-migration validation testing. The client met their carrier's sunset deadline with zero service interruption and emerged with a modernized, future-proofed device fleet and a lower total cost of connectivity.
